The almost-no-work healthy cooking solution

This is probably the most idiot-proof way to cook a meal and my friends and I love it. You do have to wait for 20 minutes before it's ready, but the actual work is under a minute once you get the hang of it. Except for eating raw veg and fruit, steaming is usually the healthiest option for cooking stuff.

However, you'll need the right gear for this. Forget about hard to clean fancy equipment; just a quality steaming pot that fits on top of regulars pots is needed. The formula for what goes where is pretty straightforward as well. But I added the picture for those that already have a hard time with the coffee machine.

In the bottom pot goes the stuff that needs boiling. Think potatoes, wholegrain rice, lentils and quinoa. You can find all those with a boiling time of 20 minutes to be ready. However, whole grain pasta usually only takes 12 to 14 minutes.

In the steaming pot on top goes frozen free-range chicken breast or frozen wild salmon. Even frozen scallops works well. That's right, no need to defrost anything. And, of course, yes, your vegetables go in there as well. You do have to cut those up in different sizes. Broccoli, for instance, needs less time steaming, so keep it in one piece, or add it later. Soggy broccoli is awful.

Now, ensure the water boils before you put in the food. Then put on the steaming pot and set a timer to go off in 20 minutes.. mission completed!

Good luck, and beware, this method is sooo easy it's a little addictive :-)

In another post, we'll go into spices and herbs to add extra flavour and health benefits.
